A seminar to make the students aware of eye donation was organized at IPS COLLEGE, Jaipur in association with the EYE BANK SOCIETY OF RAJASTHAN on 26th August 2022. Mr. Laxman Bolia and Mrs. Usha Bapna were the expert speakers who addressed the seminar.
Mr. Laxman Bolia informed that blood donation during a lifetime and eye donation posthumously is the noblest contribution toward the welfare of humanity. He informed the students that there are more than 35 lac blind people in our country which is about 20 percent of the world's population of blinds. Only 35,000 donors come forward to donate their eyes in a year which is far low compared to the size of the problem. He appealed to the students to come forward and take a pledge to donate eyes.

He informed that visual impairments have physical, emotional, social, and economic consequences and are a crucial element influencing one's quality of life. A total of 1.285 million people are estimated to be visually impaired worldwide of which 39 million are categorized as blind. These figures are startling, given that 80 percent of known vision impairments are either treatable or preventable. Corneal transplants appear to be our best hope for resolving this problem; however, a global shortage of available donors continues to dampen efforts to address this issue.

Mrs. Usha Bapna, stressed the fact that knowledge levels appear to be below expectations, and more effort is required to ensure that knowledge is imparted to our healthcare practitioners, who will then transfer this knowledge to the population, resulting in an increase in donation rates. She appealed to the students to spread awareness about eye donation and work for the creation of a healthy society. She asked the students to take safety measures in protecting their eyes and also advised them to keep a distance of about 14 inches while reading books and working on computers.
