DONATE BLOOD: GIFT A LIFE – IPS BUSINESS SCHOOL

The 14th of June is World Blood Donor Day, which is observed all across the world. The event will be held in Greece this year, and the theme for the day will be "Blood Connects Us All." The day allows us to thank volunteers and unpaid blood donors for their life-saving contributions, as well as raise awareness about the need for frequent blood donation in order to ensure the quality, safety, and availability of blood and blood products for those in need. The day also inspires future blood donors by demonstrating how blood donations have saved and altered the lives of millions of people.

The day also attempts to persuade the younger generation, who are apprehensive about donating blood, to join up and begin donating blood so that the donor population remains robust. This year's theme is 'Share Life, Give Blood,' which refers to the compassion and solidarity that comes with blood donation and caring for others.

World Blood Donors Day commemorates the birth of Karl Landsteiner, an Austrian physician who developed the first three human blood types in 1901.

Every day, more than 1200 traffic collisions occur in the country, resulting in 60 million trauma-related operations each year. Annually, there are around 230 million major operations, 331 million cancer-related treatments such as chemotherapy, and over 10 million pregnancy problem instances, all of which require a blood transfusion. Aside from that, individuals with sickle cell anemia, thalassemia, and hemophilia require a large amount of blood on a daily basis.

The following are some facts concerning the need for blood:

  1. Our country requires 5 crore units of blood on average per year, yet only 2.5 crore units are available.
  2. As there is no alternative for human blood, blood donation is seen as a gift of life.
  3. Every two seconds, someone needs blood somewhere.
  4. More than 38,000 blood donations are required every day.
  5. A total of 30 million blood components are transfused each year.
  6. The most regular blood type required by hospitals is Type O.

IPS BUSINESS SCHOOL – committed to the cause of spreading awareness and participation of blood donation, the need for safe blood, blood products in transfusion, and critical contribution by voluntary blood donors.
